The basic design and fit of phaenom boots are unisex. To ensure the boots can be adjusted to all foot and leg shapes, we offer features like removable spoilers, forward lean adjustment, volume reducers, and more. With sizes starting at 24/.5, many women will find the right fit in our lineup. The number of female athletes in our cohort is growing each season, and they’re absolutely crushing it with the boots!
Every model is refined for a precise fit, easier step-in, and better comfort, while maintaining on-snow performance. Color and personality replace all-black as the new standard, but our design ethos remains. Each boot is crafted with an eco-conscious mindset, featuring repairable and recyclable panels, buckles, straps, and screws to support restoration and reuse.
If you have yet to purchase a product, it is encouraged that you browse the size guide to minimize the likelihood of making a return. If a return is needed, once you have received the boot you will have 14 days to return your product. To return the boots, simply visit phaenom's return page.

Every part of the outer boot is designed to be repairable and/or recyclable. This diverges from most current practice, primarily due to the common use of composites in most boots, as well as rivets which make disassembly for recycling more difficult. We are working on improving the circularity of the liner as well. For now, 50% of the liner is made from bio-based materials.
Yes, all our new boots come with GripWalk® soles. Enjoy increased walking comfort, enhanced safety, and excellent ski performance. GripWalk® makes matching easy—if it says GripWalk, it's got GripWalk.
The Freeride (fr) boot, which has the same design as the Freestyle (fs) boot, is touring compatible.
The shell and last are the same. The primary difference is the walk mechanism and the toe and heel tech inserts for touring binding compatibility. The fr boots also have a lighter more uphill optimized liner without sacrificing downhill performance.
All parts on the boot are replaceable. We have a stock of replacement parts including, but not limited to, buckles, cuffs, tongues, soles, spacers and straps that can be sent on request. Some geographic restrictions apply.
This depends on which model you purchased, here is an overview of the equipment you receive with the different models we offer:

- fr 02 110: flip chips, spacer 2mm

Yes. There are many ways to customize your phaenom boot:
- The outer shell may be adjusted with heat or grinding to better accommodate the shape of the foot. It is highly recommended to see a ski boot specialist for this type of adjustment. To achieve the best fit, follow our recommended temperature guidelines. Heat the shells for 10-15 minutes at a maximum temperature of 120°C (248°F).
- The shim in the calf area may be moved up and down or removed.
- The forward angle of the boot may be adjusted in three different positions.
- The liner may be heated up so that it conforms to the shape of the foot. To achieve the best fit, follow our recommended temperature guidelines. Heat the the liners for 4-5 minutes at a maximum temperature of 80°C (176°F). However, this is not necessary to be able to ski the boot. The liner is ready to ski in as soon as you receive it.
- The footbed may be further molded by a certified boot-fitter. However, this is not necessary to use the footbed. It’s ready to ski as soon as you receive the boot.
Yes. However, for all phaenom boots the inner boot-board is integrated with the liner. If you remove the liner you need to add the boot-board. You can request and order a boot-board from our customer service team.
We do not use the BOA system for a couple of reasons:
Along with a beautiful and clean aesthetic, we wanted to make the boots easily recyclable and repairable. A buckle is much easier to repair than a BOA system is. If the BOA system breaks, repairing it requires mailing the boot away. With phaenom buckles, you may easily repair a damaged or broken buckle at home in minutes. Our buckles are also highly resistant to wear and tear. The BOA system is designed principally as a means to adjust the tightness of an overlap boot. With a 3-piece cabrio design, the overlap is different, and less pressure is exerted on the top of the foot. The buckle system is highly efficient for adjusting fit.
For a long time, the community faced issues with outdated boot designs and complicated buckle handling. We eliminated unnecessary elements to ensure simplicity. Our oversized buckles are engineered for durability and ease of use. With the phaenom strap we addressed the problems of flex control, rebound, and shock absorption. This was crafted from a single recyclable material to minimize environmental impact.
The strap's elasticity enhances rebound through turns, improving power transmission, turn initiation precision, comfort, and predictability. The wider front shape provides additional support, replacing the need for a third buckle on the cuff.
By addressing the specific needs of freestyle and all-mountain skiers in the fs collection and backcountry skiers in the fr ski boots family, phaenom has focused on performance on the downhill, comfort, ease of use, and the repairability and recyclability of its products. The fs collection is designed for freeskiers who crave high-performance equipment that delivers precision and control for all-mountain riding – skiers who seek out jumps and features. The fr boots are designed for off-piste explorers who value agility, comfort and shock absorption, and value a boot that will accompany them on brief itineraries with a touring binding and a built-in walk mode.
Because alignment starts with the foot, not the cuff. A proper custom footbed centers the knee for most skiers. Our cuff sits a touch lower so the leg can self-center naturally, and the lower shell comes high—about 2–3 cm below the cuff—so rotating only the cuff wouldn’t change the ski-to-snow angle. If someone needs a lateral correction, a fitter can add a posted footbed or a binding shim—that’s true canting and far more precise.”
18.a But other brands offer it—are we limiting performance?
No. Cuff alignment mostly changes shin-to-cuff contact. Real edge-to-snow alignment is done under the boot/binding. We’ve chosen the simpler, more robust path that works for the vast majority—and keeps the precise fixes in the hands of pros when they’re actually needed.
18.b When would a skier actually need lateral work?
Clear genu valgum/varum, persistent ‘one ski won’t go flat’ after a footbed, or race-level specificity. Then refer to a qualified bootfitter for posting or shims; set expectations around small angles (≈0.5°–1.5° total).

There are so many brand name possibilities out there, and it took us time to nail something that really resonated with us. The brand name phaenom describes a remarkable person or act of nature. This extends to our logo – an impossible loop as a symbol of natural phenomena. It symbolizes the continuous cycle of development, whether that’s in our workshops, among our on-snow community and the lifecycle of our products.
Our freeski boot collection is only the beginning for us. We are a footwear company. Technical mountain footwear is at the heart of what we do today and what we will always work towards. In what future forms our visions will come to life, that is something you will have to just wait and see.
